This event felt like being in our own community where sharing and exchanging was so mutual. As always\, seeds brought in communal harmony in the event. SUMMARY:Genetic Diversity Fair
DESCRIPTION:@hoogaseed_keepers_collective participation in the #GeneticDiversityFair2022 conducted by the Tamilnadu State Government in Erode District in Tamilnadu. Displaying more than 200+ varieties fresh from the farm\, HOOGA SEED_KEEPERS_COLLECTIVE had a happy moment getting awarded the first prize in the fair. Thanks to Savithri amma and research students from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS)\, Mumbai who strongly took the community work on Seed keeping forward\, as part of our project “Climate U” with University of London and TISS. Special thanks to Dr Sunil (Centre for Livelihoods and Social Innovation\, TISS\, Mumabi) and Prof. Tristan (University of London) who are guiding and mentoring us on this community based action research project on seed sovereignty and climate change. \nWe keep reiterating to talk about our indigenous/native/desi varieties of seeds as that will be our first step towards sowing the seeds of change. Today\, we are pushed to talk about what was one’s our own\, just made our communal harmony and collectiveness work much easier through exchange mechanisms. It’s just incredible to think that we thought food security can come through monoculture farming systems while our genetic diversity is at stake. Let’s keep sharing\, talking and bring back our seeds.

DESCRIPTION:Come and visit us in New Delhi on the 18th October\, 2022 at the IARI Mela Ground\, New Delhi during the biggest gathering of Agri start-up conclave and Kisan Sammelan👩‍🌾 \nWe are very excited to meet all our fellow food growers\, gardeners and seed savers in our capital region soon💚 \nHOOGA seed_keepers_collective is proud to share that we were one of the ventures who participated amongst the top 42 start-ups selected in India under the PUSA KRISHI ICAR(Indian Council for Agriculture Research) incubation grant and got an opportunity to exhibit our agro biodiversity of seeds. The session was inaugurated by our H’onorable PM of India and our stall was visited by the agriculture minister and eminent scientists of “National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR)”. This was an important event for HOOGA to network\, plan and establish cross links to take our work forward in many aspects. It was a one of its kind opportunity to meet our farmers and discuss about our seed diversity. \n \n

DESCRIPTION:Seed Festival at village level – Kanjikoil village in Erode District\, Tamilnadu on July 4th\, 2022. \nWe waited to host our first seed festival for the season (ஆடிப் பட்டம் தேடி விதை) and HOOGA_SEED_KEEPERS_COLLECTIVE s seed festival happened in our own village with our farmers and food growing enthusiasts from different places. Cheers to the start of our lifelong journey. We are excited about our farmers who are growing and started saving seeds\, who started talking about native seeds again and there we go and go\, taking one step at a time concretely and strongly leaving no stone unturned. With pure commitment to revive our roots and practices\, HOOGA sowing festival happens every year during May/June/July to gather together and dedicate our time and value to the most important existence of every human being\, THE SEEDS. We had farmers from the local village\, retired agriculture department professors\, research students from TISS\, Mumbai\, organic farming enthusiasts from different faraway places\, and HOOGA team coming together to discuss about our agro biodiversity\, climate change impact and seed freedom. The motive is to bring in more people together\, put our native culture and traditions first\, initiate dialogues on native/desi varieties of food and pave way for a concrete self-reflection and exploration of the current realities in this space.
