Become a Seed Keeper
Join with us and Start Saving Seeds
Be a seed keeper protecting & conserving native heirloom seeds - Experience our agro biodiversity
HOOGA Seed Keepers Collective works strongly to bring back the seed saving mechanism back in the hands of farmers and common people. We believe that traditional native seeds can be revived only through a collective effort co-joining with like minded people who are interested in agro bio-diveristy conservation work.
If you are interested to be a part of a larger cause of reviving endangered food and lost seeds, you can write to us at info@hoogaseeds.com. You can visit or volunteer at our seedbank located in a rustic village in Erode, Tamilnadu.
To become a seed keeper, the following steps will be taken:
- The first step will be an assessment to understand your interest and knowledge on seed keeping from your past work and experiences
- HOOGA will be conducting a training program on seed keeping and climate resilience, which will help you get through the process of seed keeping and become a seed keeper
- If you have at least one year of food growing experience in your terrace garden, balcony or a piece of land, even at a small level then you are eligible to be a part of our hooga seed keepers team
- Once you agree to be a part of it, you will be associating with our collective and take responsibility for saving seeds with us
- We do internal assessments and take accountability for your actions since we will be sharing rare varieties of seeds with you which are not easily available so we ensure that they don’t get lost again. HOOGA team does extensive trips to remote parts of our country to save our food diversity.
- We will give you instructions on how to grow and the procedures if you are a beginner
- To be in the team, you need to have a minimum of one cent of land or balcony space to a maximum of one acre in which you can grow food and seeds for further saving
- You can also volunteer with us to understand and learn about seed conservation.
Note: Please apply only if you take this very responsibly and be a part of a movement on native seed collective ensuring food security. We work hard to find those varieties which are critically important for us. Every seed has its own story and our team works on gathering their stories and sharing them as podcasts.
